Officials in some Iowa school districts are asking teachers to reconsider previously agreed-to cash gifting as a way to cut expenses in ever-tightening budgets.School boards in about 15 of Iowa's 361 school districts agreed to multi-year contracts with teachers before knowing the extent of the current economic crisis and the effect it would have on funding. School leaders say they provided salary and benefit increases that hovered around 4 percent and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, so they could better plan their budgets.
